Sophia Danae Vorvila

Sophia Danae Vorvila is an Athens-and Brussels-based performer, dancer and maker with a wide-ranging background in contemporary dance, choreography and psychology. She holds a BFA in Dance (Athens, 2015) and a BFA psychology from Panteion University of Social and Political Science (2016). In 2021, she completed her postgraduate research and choreography program at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, where she received a scholarship. Danae had performance in a diverse array of international projects and has worked with renowned choreographers such as Ido Batash, Jenny Argyriou, The Little Things Orchestra, Simon Van Schuylenbergh, Fotini Stamatelopoulou, dramaturg Hildegard de Vuyst and interned with choreographer Meg Stuart at Kaaitheater (CASCADE, Solos and Duets). She is also part of the Belgian collective ne mosquito pas and has been collaborating with the acclaimed theatre director Romeo Castellucci since 2016 for the project Democracy in America, followed by the opera Requiem. Her artistic practice merges improvisation, performative writing and instant composition with an ongoing exploration of discomfort, pleasure and the micro-histories of everyday life. Her choreographic work has been presented in venues such as Kaaistudio’s in Brussels, KAAP Bruges and the DANSAND! festival whilst continuing her development of the research within the Royal Conservatoire’s CORPoREAL group for the 2023-2024 academic year. Among her accolades are the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Artist Fellowship by ARTWORKS (2022) and the danceWEB Scholarship at the ImPulsTanz Festival in Vienna (2023).
