C\u00e9line Gaza is a performer, certified mindfulness meditation guide and activist. She uses meditation, movement and voice practices to counter injustices, examine (racial and other) traumas and transform them. It is important to her today to combine her spiritual, social and artistic practices as a way of offering her knowledge to her community. As a mixed heritage woman raised by a Congolese father and a Polish mother, both political refugees, C\u00e9line finds it important to transform pain(s) in her spiritual journey and artistic expression and to widen the dominant conception of Mindfulness in the West. The performative practices of singing and dancing thus became healing practices. She has learned that behind her anger, there is an enormous amount of suffering and that, if she can embrace her anger, sing and dance with it, she is able to release it in a more constructive way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C\u00e9line’s spirituality is fundamental in her artistic work. It has an important place in the creation process and during the performances. Additionally, it allows her to move away from hegemonic conceptions of art. Through sharing practices and rituals she uses in her own healing journey with the audience she offers tools to individuals while working on the collective body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through my practices I try to share the idea of interpersonal mindfulness. The process of continuous exchange with and learning from and alongside colleagues from different sectors (musicians, theater makers, actors, healers, dancers and activists), enables me to work in an interdisciplinary way.
